What, or who, is The Great Gatsby?

The Great Gatsby” was written in 1925 on Long Island, on the north shore.  This novel talks about the world as it was during the first world war.  It was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  In 1922 the Fitzgeralds moved to Great Neck, Long Island.  It had some of New York’s wealthiest families living there at that time.

The novel continued to progress and the family moved to the French Riviera to continue writing.  He finished the book in 1925.  It is about the twenties, with all of the drinking and parties.  When he died in 1940 he and his book were forgotten.  He believed himself to be a failure.  After his death people began reading his book again.  In the 1960’s it began to gain in popularity.  Now it is considered by some a great American novel.
